Uni-Lock Paver Patio Built for New England Weather in North Conway

Up here in the Mount Washington Valley, the ground moves. Frost heave, snowmelt, and the constant freeze-thaw cycle will absolutely destroy a patio that wasn't built right from the bottom up. That's why the base prep on this North Conway job was just as important to us as the pavers sitting on top of it.

We worked in coordination with JSR Excavating and Hardscape on this one. Here's the thing about doing a job like this correctly - you have to nail the groundwork before a single paver goes down. The gravel base you can see being laid out in the earlier shots is what makes the difference between a patio that shifts and sinks after a couple winters and one that holds its shape for decades.

Once the base was dialed in, we went with Uni-Lock pavers in a clean multi-size pattern. The mix of larger field pavers surrounded by a charcoal border gives the whole surface a finished, intentional look. It ties into the existing granite steps and the natural stone elements already on the property. Nothing feels forced or out of place.

A multi-size layout like this isn't just about looks. The varied sizing creates a stronger interlocking structure across the surface. Combined with proper drainage built into the base, you end up with a paver patio that handles whatever New England throws at it - whether that's a brutal January or a heavy rain in July.
